Quicklime, CaO, for sludge stabilization
– Waste water
The liming process
When quicklime, CaO, is added and mixed into the sludge, for example using a lime sludge mixer, the lime reacts with the water in the sludge, resulting in a strong heat development. This is an exothermic reaction.
The aim is to raise the temperature to 80°C. This will stop all biological activity, i.e. the sludge will be hygienized. In addition, the pH value of the sludge increases.
Due to the high temperatures involved in this process, it is important that the addition of dry lime is done safely. Thanks to Tomal’s multi-screw dosing units and the experience of our engineers, we deliver dosing plants with high accuracy and safe discharge of the lime. The plants are customized and consist of a storage silo with dosing unit and screw conveyor.
