Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) is a method of aquaculture developed in the 1970s from water treatment systems. The method involves growing aquatic organisms in tanks where the water is
reused to varying degrees using mechanical and biological filters. In the process, it is essential that the pH value is correct, i.e. the measure of the acidity of the water. Hydrated lime is often used to increase the pH.
